WhatsApp Marketing for D2C Brands: Six Flows to Build First

3 minutes

Six WhatsApp flows Indian D2C brands should set up first, from abandoned carts to reorder reminders, plus the consent and template rules to follow.

ndian shoppers live on WhatsApp, which is exactly why so many brands ruin it. A few too many blasts and customers block you for good. Done well, it is the most direct line you have to a buyer. Build these six flows before you send a single broadcast.

Before you build anything: consent and templates

Get a clear opt in at checkout or signup and say what you will send. Business messages sent outside the customer service window go through pre approved templates, so write them plainly and expect a review step. Give people an easy way to stop messages. Brands that skip this end up with poor quality ratings and limits on how much they can send. WhatsApp's rules change from time to time, so read Meta's current business messaging policy before launch.

1. Abandoned cart

Send the first reminder within an hour or two, with the product name and a direct link back to the cart. Send a second message the next day that answers the most common doubt for that product, such as sizing, shade or delivery time. Bring a discount in at the third message, if at all. Teaching customers to abandon carts for coupons is a hard habit to undo.

2. COD confirmation

If you ship cash on delivery, confirm the order on WhatsApp with a simple Confirm or Change address button. It filters out fake and impulse orders before they leave your warehouse, and it feeds straight into lower RTO.

3. Order and delivery updates

Shipped, out for delivery, delivered. These get some of the highest read rates of anything you send, so use them well. Add a how to use link and a support contact. Do not stuff a promotion into every update.

4. Review and feedback request

About a week after delivery, ask for a rating with one tap. Send the public review link to happy customers, and route unhappy ones straight to your support team so you can fix it before it becomes a one star.

5. Reorder reminder

Time it to the product's replenishment window and give it a single button to reorder. Name the exact item they bought last, so it feels like a convenience and not a campaign.

6. Win back

For customers who have gone quiet, lead with something new: a restock, a new shade, a launch. Keep incentives for the group that still does not respond.

Keep the tone human

Write the way a person at your brand would talk. Short lines, one clear action, an emoji if it suits your voice, no walls of text. Use the customer's first name and the product they actually bought. A reply should reach a human, or a bot that can hand over to one quickly.

Metrics worth watching

Track read rate, reply rate, click to order and opt out rate. If opt outs rise after a particular message, rewrite it or retire it. Revenue per message sent is a better health check than total messages sent.

If you're sending WhatsApp messages but not seeing orders come back, or you haven't started yet, that's the conversation worth having before your next broadcast.
